Company Overview

Seniors for Seniors-USA was started in 2011 by Director Marcy George and Sponsor Dr. Radhika Rishi, in an effort to save senior cats and then place them in forever homes paired with senior citizens. Located in Rockville, MD, we serve the DC and Baltimore metro areas.

Our mission was born out of a need. Once during Marcy’s seven years of rescue, she placed a 10-year-old senior cat in a home with a 76-year-old woman. She remembers the woman speaking of how she loved having the company and how much happier her life became once the kitty was part of it. This senior citizen was no longer lonely. Marcy realized how many other senior citizens might benefit from the companionship of a senior cat. There was also a huge need to reduce the number of senior cats being euthanized in shelters, as senior cats are ten times more likely to be euthanized. The idea of Seniors for Seniors was born.

Seniors for Seniors-USA’s mission is to rescue mature cats and place them in forever homes with mature adults, thus reducing the number of senior cats being euthanized. We strive to create a loving relationship between feline and potential adopters.

Prior to starting Seniors for Seniors-USA, Marcy worked for a wonderful cat rescue in Gaithersburg, MD as a foster and as an adoption counselor/coordinator for the senior cat program. She also helped with fundraising. She adopted an 11-year-old Himalayan named Nikki from them and was hooked! Nikki helped Marcy realize just how wonderful senior cats are. Next, she answered an urgent plea to save a 10-year-old black cat, which she agreed to take in, and then found a home for. That’s when she knew she could do this. Next, Marcy partnered with a 501c3 organization and got her rescue approval from the Montgomery County Humane Society (MCHS). There has been no shortage of senior cats needing help since. In 2011, Seniors for Seniors-USA placed 15 cats, in 2012 we have placed 42 adult cats and in 2013 we placed 76 mature cats. We placed 95 cats in 2014.  All adults 21 and older can adopt from S4S-USA. We do require an adoption application for all interested people.

We now have a cattery in Rockville, Maryland, and many foster homes. Our 18 volunteers work hard to find the perfect homes for these loving adult cats. Cats can be seen by appointment only. Call Marcy at 301-838-1990. A list of our adoptable pets can be seen on Petfinder.

Our Cats

We save half our cats from local shelters. The other half come from the private sector, for which we require an intake fee. These cats must also be current on shots and healthy. If you know of a senior cat in desperate need of a home, please contact us, as we may be able to help.
